NIGAHBAN WELFARE ASSOCIATION

Established in 2005, Nigahban Welfare Association is a non-profit organization committed to providing free healthcare services to the poor and needy patients at Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital, Karachi. Over the years, the association has made significant contributions to various medical departments, ensuring that underprivileged patients receive high-quality medical care.  

Mission: To alleviate the suffering of underprivileged patients by providing essential medical services free of charge, ensuring they receive the best possible care regardless of their financial situation.  

Vision: To continue expanding healthcare services and facilities to support more patients and enhance the overall quality of care provided at Ruth K M Pfau Civil Hospital, Karachi.  

Nigahban Welfare Association offers a comprehensive range of medical services to cater to the diverse needs of patients: 

1. Endoscopy Services: The association provides complete endoscopic procedures to diagnose, and treat various gastrointestinal conditions.
2. Ultrasound Services: High-quality diagnostic ultrasound services are available to ensure accurate and timely diagnosis of medical conditions.
3. GI Motility Services: Specialized services are offered for gastrointestinal motility disorders, helping patients manage and treat these conditions effectively.
4. High Dependency Unit (HDU): The HDU is well-equipped with ventilators and monitors to provide intensive care to critically ill patients, ensuring they receive the necessary support and monitoring 

Nigahban Welfare Association operates in several specialized medical units within Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital, Karachi, providing targeted healthcare services: 

1. Surgical Unit-IV: Supports patients undergoing various surgical procedures, ensuring pre- and postoperative care.

2. Surgical Unit-I: Offers comprehensive surgical services, including diagnostics, treatment, and recovery support.

3. Surgical Unit-II: Specializes in surgical procedures, providing high-quality care to patients.

4. Vascular Surgery: Focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of vascular conditions, offering both surgical and non-surgical interventions.

5. Paediatric Surgery: Dedicated to surgical care for paediatric patients, ensuring they receive specialized treatment in a child-friendly environment.

6. Sindh Institute of Advanced Endoscopy & Gastroenterology (SIAG): Provides advanced endoscopic and gastroenterological services, contributing to the early diagnosis and effective treatment of gastrointestinal conditions.  

Since its inception, Nigahban Welfare Association has made a significant impact on the healthcare landscape of Karachi, particularly for the underprivileged. Some of the notable achievements include:

Thousands of poor and needy patients have received free medical services, improving their health outcomes and quality of life. We have witnessed patients brought in critical conditions on stretchers, only to leave walking on their own. This exemplifies our mission: to save every precious life, viewing each patient not just as a case but as a valuable individual to be saved.

The team NIGHABAN Welfare Association was the driving force behind the establishment of the brand-new institute SIAG as without their expertise it was not possible to implement this initiative. It was the vision of Dr. Saad Khalid Niaz, a renowned gastroenterologist and President of NIGAHBAN. Hence, with the generous support of the Sindh Government and the instrumental NIGAHBAN, which contributed 250 Million rupees towards the construction and acquisition of state-of-the-art machinery, SIAG aspires to deliver advanced gastroenterological services to the people of Sindh and beyond. SIAG is a new feather in the cap of NWA, benefiting the people of Sindh.

It was inaugurated in May 2023 by the Honorable Chief Minister of Sindh, Mr. Murad Ali Shah. SIAG deals with upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, spyglass, and more. One of the unique features of SIAG is its specialized facility for paediatric procedures and a fully equipped paediatric High Dependency Unit. SIAG is committed to providing high-quality medical care to all, regardless of their financial means. More than 900 procedures are performed each month completely free of charge. The purpose is to benefit more and more people.

The association has contributed to the improvement of medical facilities and equipment, ensuring that patients receive care in a safe and modern environment.

Future Plans

Nigahban Welfare Association aims to continue its mission of providing free healthcare services and expanding its reach to more patients. 

Future plans include:

1. Expansion of Services:

In light of our ongoing mission to expand and improve healthcare services, the establishment of three new endoscopy hubs under the auspices of SIAG in Nawabshah, Sukkur, and Larkana is under consideration. These hubs will significantly enhance our capability to deliver specialized gastroenterology services across the region. 

The establishment of these hubs will not only provide accessible, high-quality medical services to the residents of these areas but also alleviate the patient load on existing facilities in Karachi.

2. Infrastructure Development:

We have proposed the reconstruction and restoration of the Four Medical units of the Heritage Building at the Civil Hospital Karachi, inspired by the successful model of the recently established and operational Sindh Institute of Advanced Endoscopy and Gastroenterology (SIAG). The SIAG project has now completed one year of operations with significant achievements in healthcare delivery, and we aim to replicate this success.

3. New Ventures:

Keeping in view the rising number of serious patients suffering from Medical problems from Karachi and outside the Karachi requires the immediate Intensive Care treatment by highly skilled staff equipped with latest modern Machinery and live saving gadgets and Medicine. 

The Medical ICU Dr. Ruth K.M Pfau, Civil Hospital Karachi through dedicated human resources. But Medical ICU requires renovation upgradation latest equipment and batter management. The Nigahban Welfare Association intense to meet this requirement in collaboration with Health Department Government of Sindh. 

The Nigahban Welfare Association Comprises of experience professional having relevant experience and prove in track record to improve the standard of heath care completely aliens with the provincial Heath sector plans and priority. The Nigahban Possesses the will to serve the community and required human resources, including professional staff will be able to provide dedicated management and technical services which is required in specialized healthcare of Medical Intensive Care Located at Dr. Ruth K.M Pfau, Civil Hospital Karachi.
